Buying Tickets for the Alhambra

If you are only coming to Granada for a day or two it's worth getting your tickets in advance because there can be long queues and it may even be impossible. This page contains all the information that you will need.

IMPORTANT: Only two organizations are authorised to sell Alhambra tickets: the Alhambra (from their ticket offices at the Alhambra itself) and the Caixa bank (from its "servicaixa" web page). There are links on other pages to places where you can supposedly buy tickets but it is NOT possible to purchase authentic discounted tickets through other agents.

Stop press news: Problems buying tickets? In the next few weeks there are many days when the Alhambra tickets have sold out. We have discovered that the Granada City Pass (BONO TURÍSTICO) has a large allocation of tickets which are almost always available, even when the Alhambra itself has sold out. Even if the tickets are not sold out the Bono turistico is a good idea because it includes entrance tickets to all of the following monuments and they are all worth a visit:

-- Alhambra and Generalife
-- Cathedral
-- Royal Chapel
-- Monastery of Cartuja
-- Monastery of San Jerónimo
-- Science Park

It also includes 9 free journeys on normal buses and minibuses, and 1 free day on the CITY SIGHTSEEING bus.

Another advantage of the BONO TURISTICO is:
-- You can choose the exact time when you visit the Nazrid Palaces.

You can buy the BONO TURISTICO for the SAME day from the This-is audioguide kiosk in Plaza Nueva or the Science Museum and the price is 30€.

You can also purchase it IN ADVANCE from the This-is audioguide kiosk, the Science Museum or the CAJA GRANADA's web page here (and pick it up from a branch of the Caja Granada - the most central branch is the one in the Plaza Isabel la Católica at the end of the Gran Vía, near Plaza Nueva). If you buy the BONO in advance, the price is 32.50€. If you bought the pass online, you need to allow two working days before picking it up.


ALHAMBRA TICKETS

In advance:

You can buy entrance tickets up to 3 months in advance but not for the same day.

They accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Eurocard, Maestro) and also Visa Electrón, but not American Express.

Note: You can buy up to 10 tickets at a time.

BY PHONE:
In August 2007, the system for buying alhambra tickets changed. To buy tickets with a credit card, phone:
902 888 001 from Spain or +34 934 923 750 from outside Spain.
The operators speak Spanish, English and French. You can only choose between the morning session (08.00 - 14.00) or afternoon session (after 14.00) - it is not possible to choose the exact time to visit the Nazrid Palaces.

This page is easy to use and works best with Internet Explorer (you don't see the calendar correctly with other browsers).

If you use this system to book, you can choose the time of your visit to the Nazrid Palaces: if you don't like the time you have been assigned in the first step, you can return to the previous page and try again until you are given the time slot you like.
(it appears that the time slots are given randomly).

To pick up your tickets, go to the room with the cash points on the right of the entrance, put in the credit card you used to book the tickets and the tickets will be printed.

Notes: There is no e-mail confirmation. After the transaction has been processed you are sent to a confirmation page. It is best to print this page because this would be your only proof if a mistake has been make. The money is not taken from your account until you print the ticket at the Alhambra. Don't book the tickets unless you are giving it your full concentration, we have heard reports of mistakes but it appears to have been caused but user error rather than system error.

If someone else bought the tickets for you with a credit card that you don't have with you, you will need to bring a written authorisation from them and a photocopy of their identity card so that you can pick the tickets up from the main ticket office. If you don't have the credit card that you used to book the tickets with you, you will also need to pick your tickets up from the main ticket office with your booking reference number and identity card.

NEWS: If you made your booking online, you can now pick up your Alhambra tickets from any CAIXA cashpoint anywhere in Spain by entering the same card you used to buy the tickets.

On the day:

You can only buy tickets for the same day as your visit at the ticket office at the Alhambra itself. The queues may be long and it is much better to book them in advance.

Prices:

Day visit (Nazrid palaces, Alcazaba, Generalife):
Adults: 13 euros
Students: 10 euros (with proof)
Pensioners: 0 euros (with proof)
Disabled: 0 euros
Children under 12: 0 euros

Garden visit (Paseo de los Cipreses, Secano, San Francisco Gardens; Alcazaba; Generalife):
Adults: 7 euros
Disabled: 0 euros
Children under 12: 0 euros

Night visit: 
Adults: 13 euros
Pensioners: 10 euros (with proof)
Disabled: 0 euros
Children under 12: 0 euros

Authorised educational groups: Please phone 958 22 09 12 and ask for info.

Prices: these are the prices for advance ticket sales either online or by phone. If you buy the tickets directly from the Alhambra, the tickets are 1 euro cheaper.

Opening hours:

Morning and Afternoon visits (day visits): For a day visit you have to choose between the morning session (08.00 - 14.00) or afternoon session (after 14.00).

Entrance to the Nazrid Palaces: You are given a window of half an hour to arrive at the Nazrid Palaces. This is very strict and you cannot enter before or after this period. Apart from that, you are free to visit the other parts of the Alhambra without time restrictions.

November to February
8:30 am - 18:00 (Monday to Sunday)
The ticket office is open from 8:00 - 17:00

NIGHT VISITS (only to the Nazrid palaces)

Tuesday to Saturday
The ticket office is open from 21:30 - 22:30

November to February
20:00 - 21:30
Only Friday and Saturday
The ticket office is open from 19:30 - 20:30

Closing days:
The monument will be closed on the 25th December and the 1st January.
